Earl Monroe Stamper, 85, retired logger
AHSAHKA -- Earl Monroe Stamper, a retired logger, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday at his home here. He was 85.
He was born June 14, 1913, to Albert and Ida Swenson Stamper at Park, Idaho.
He lived in the Clearwater Valley most of his life as a self-employed logger. In his early years of logging he logged with horses and mules.
He married Juanita J. Blevins of Ahsahka Nov. 23, 1935, in Clarkston.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors and working with animals. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
For the past seven years he took care of his wife during her illness.
Survivors include his wife at the family home at Ahsahka; three daughters, Earlene Blake of Lewiston, Evelyn Luck of Portland, Ore., and Mary Ann Mingo of Clarkston; five sons, Lyle Stamper of Winchester, Jim Stamper, Larry Stamper and Earl Stamper, all of Lewiston, and Bill Stamper of Orofino; three sisters, Pearl Cox and Christina Tuominen, both of Clarkston, and Myrtle Matson of Orofino; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Stamper, and four sons, Butch, Ben, Gerald Dean and Cecil Stamper.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston. The Rev. Tyler Lanham of the Clearwater Alliance Church of Orofino will officiate.
Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino is handling arrangements.
